The Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly) is an invasive species of pest that can cause extensive damage to a large variety of fruit crops.

This destructive pest is native to the Mediterranean area but has spread to Australasia, and North and South America. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has established an action plan, which provides guidelines and actions for the eradication of a Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly) infestation.
