The national ignition facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory enables key programs and technologies that support doe's national nuclear security administration defense programs and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory missions, ensuring that the nation's nuclear weapons remain safe, secure and reliable. NIF, one of the cornerstones of doe's stockpile stewardship program, will integrate the inertial confinement fusion program into the overall stockpile stewardship program and foster the development of associated laser technologies.
