The American Solar Challenge, the longest solar car race in the world, is a doe sponsored educational event in which teams compete to build and race solar-powered cars. twenty universities participated in this year's event which started in Chicago, Illinois on July 13 and followed route 66 for 2300 miles to Claremont, California, ending on July 23, 2003. the university of Missouri-Rolla won first place, setting a record for us solar car racing by completing 2300 miles in 51 hours.
