Dan Durham, left, NRCS district conservationist in Sherican, Mont., worked with Stephen Becklund, manager of the J Bar L Ranch near Twin Bridges, Mont., to develop and implement a conservation plan.

Becklund converted an alfalfa field to a mix of grasses and clovers, converted a flood irrigation system to a more water-efficient sprinkler irrigation system, and installed cross fences to rotate his cattle to more evenly graze his pastures. Madison County, Montana. June 2017.
