The center of Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 hurricane, passed just north of Puerto Rico Sept. 7, followed very closely by Hurricane Maria, a powerful Category 4 hurricane, which made direct landfall Sept. 20 causing substantial flooding and left much of the island without power.
