Inside a former London Docklands Light Railway train which was sold to Essen in Germany and converted for human driving and to be powered via overhead wires.
These now operate services which include working as underground trains and sometimes also as street compatible trams, albeit only calling at stations which have high-level platforms.
EVAG 5239 is former DLR P86 No.09
When first built P86 trains were only able to operate singly but in Essen they were also adapted for multiple-unit operation. In addition, they had their 'bat-wing' inward folding doors replaced with single sliding doors - as per the P89 trains.
The yellow box seen on the pole on the right is a ticket validator, these are used by passengers who have pre-paid paper tickets.
On the pole on the left can be seen a 'stop request' button which when pressed will also open the passenger doors when the train is at the next station. Original public domain image from Flickr
