Laboratory technician, Thérèsa, views a slide through her microscope.

Looking under the microscope, Thérèsa Mutombo Kabula can determine if a patient has malaria, the species type and severity of infection. This allows clinicians to make informed treatment plans. As well as being a skilled lab technician, Theresa is the head of laboratory services and has worked in the Shalina Polyclinic for 14 years. She is in charge of supervision, biosafety and quality standards. After completing supervision and mentoring training provided by PMI Impact Malaria, Thérèsa is now a mentor herself.

Capacity and skill building in local communities provide sustainable models for reliable malaria diagnostics and safe treatment.
