Big U.S. naval base in Ulster built by American and British workers. Londonderry is now America's premier naval base in Europe. Nearly 800 American technicians, with over 2,000 local workers, built it in six months, all the equipment down, to the last nut and bolt, coming from the U.S.A. American and British sailors warmly fraternized during the building of the base, which includes receiving and broadcasting stations, a 200-bed hospital, and large camps.
