Water pump and tractor power plant, a common sight in the rice area in Arkansas. In some places in the state, the pumps go down more than one hundred feet and pump constantly the entire period during which the rice is grown. Each year, so much water is drawn out that the pump must be sunk another two or three feet. In some areas water pumps dot the countryside like oil derricks in an oil area.
