Portrait of America. No. 36. Rural electrification in the U.S. This American farmer, whose farm has been electrified through a cooperative rural electrification project, carries a small efficient portable electric motor from one farm building to another to operate his modern farm equipment. Many farms in the U.S. employ these portable electric motors to operate pumps, seed separators and cleaners, churns, food mixers, separators, and other labor-saving profit-making devices.
