Part of a tableau of bronze statues depicting the first successful, sustained, power flight of a heavier-than-air machine -- lasting just 12 seconds -- at the the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

From 1900 to 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright came here from Dayton, Ohio, based on information from the U.S. Weather Bureau about the area's steady winds. Authorized as Kill Devil Hill Monument in 1927, it was renamed and designated a national memorial in 1953.
