Sesame seeds crop, still several days away from harvest at the Ernie Schirmer Farms (Batesville) where Operations Manager Brandon Schirmer wants to be sure the plants are at the proper low moisture content level, as measured by making a test harvest run and letting his agronomist analyze the moisture level at this 1,014-acre multi-crop farm in Batesville, TX, on October 29, 2020.
A small but reducing percentage of the crop is still green and wet. Rain and other conditions have delayed the dry out of the plants and his harvest operation. All of plants have to be dried out (brown), allowing the harvester to cleanly shear the dry brittle plant and mechanically separate the seeds from the capsules and stalks.
