Nuclear electric power arrived on the moon for the first time on November 19, 1969, when the Apollo 12 astronauts -- Charles (Pete) Conrad and Gordon Bean - developed the AEC's SNAP-27 on the lunar surface to provide power for the six experiments and the transmission data of the ALSEP (Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package).
