Keck II telescope atop 14,000 foot Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii.
A laser guide star adaptive optics system being developed for the 10-meter keck ii telescope is a collaboration between LLNL and the keck observatory. This 20 minute time exposure of the keck virtual guide star, shows the orange laser beam emerging from the dome of the telescope and the motion of the stars made "trails" or streaks in the sky. This optics system is the largest currently being developed for an astronomical telescope.
