Occidental oil, Logan Wash facility, upper level underground gas blower facilities.
At the Logan Wash facility, occidental oil shale Inc. is working on modified in situ retorting technology using both vertical and horizontal mined slot configurations. This concept involves partial conventional mining in order to create underground chambers where explosives are placed, and the surrounding rock is rubberized (fractured). The rock is then ignited, and as the fire burns at the top of the chamber, the oil will collect at the bottom before being pumped to the surface. The support facilities at Logan Wash include underground offices, warehouse, and maintenance areas.
