Kaplan industries received a $938,000 grant to build a facility that converts animal waste into methane gas. The conversion process technically known as anaerobic fermentation, uses bacteria to break down cow manure and convert it into methane. The facility provides 88% of Kaplan's processing plant energy needs, producing steam for cleanup, heating and hot water and replacing most of the 6,250 gallons of fuel oil per week used in the operation. dried manure will be used to formulate a 23% protein ration. the new 23% feed product will be inert, so it can be stored indefinitely. The system will both decrease odor and up- grade the plant's waste water system.
