The mighty mouse robot at Sandia National Laboratory.
The robot is part of the radiological assistance program at Sandia National Laboratory and collaborates with DOD's white sands missile range gamma irradiation facility. The facility's purpose is to irradiate electric circuit boards to test their survivability under extreme circumstances. The robot weighs 600 pounds, is five foot long, rolls on treads and can maneuver around obstacles and has a long multi-jointed gripper arm. Recently, mighty mouse resolved a problem with a stuck 15 kilocurie cobalt-60 source at the gif. workers at the facility were able to successfully return a source to a safe condition with minimal radiation dose to personnel.
