A seedling planted along the banks of Big Spring Creek is protected from wildlife browsing.
Led by the Fergus Conservation District and landowner Mark Machler, work on the Big Spring Creek restoration project near Lewistown, Mont., was completed in the summer of 2017. NRCS developed the restoration plan and paid for a portion of the construction through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. The project restored the natural meander of Big Spring Creek, which had been straightened in the 1960s. In addition to improving fish and wildlife habitat, the restoration will curtail erosion, sedimentation, and flooding. June 2017. Fergus County, Montana. Original public domain image from Flickr
