The Hound of Hades!
Crotalus Cerberus also known as the Arizona Black Rattlesnake makes its home in the mountains of Arizona and extreme western New Mexico. Able to increase or decrease it's melanin levels, amazingly this rattlesnake is able to change it’s color from almost jet black to a light grey depending on the climate. This enables the snake to maintain a safe body temperature and survive the unpredictable weather conditions of the high altitude mountains of the Southwest. Found and Photographed on a warm morning hike through the Mazatzal Mountains in Tonto National Forest, Arizona, May 13th 2017. (Courtesy photo by Kevin Newman).
