2017 Employee Work Day, Mountainaire

Sean Murphy giving the safety talk before work begins.
Coconino National Forest's Flagstaff Ranger District held it's annual end-of-summer employee work day August 16, 2017 near the Mountainaire community south of Flagstaff. Employees from the District and Supervisor's Office showed up to lend their efforts to naturalize an old two-track route and build fencing. Brian Poturalski, head of Flagstaff Ranger District's recreation department, led the effort.

There was a great turn-out, and participants were broken up into several teams. The teams installed signs, built logworm fencing, installed a gate on the official road into the area, and covered the old two-track route with branches and pine needles to help restoring it to its natural state.

The annual District work day events give permanent and seasonal employees a chance to get outdoors on a beautiful day at the end of the summer season and work together on a much-needed District project. All the employees are invited to the event, and office workers, wildlife biologists, recreation specialists, firefighters, and others from the wide variety of Forest Service careers and jobs work side-by-side to accomplish a tangible goal together. They'll be able to see the results of their efforts for years to come.
