USS Jamestown.
Launched in Norfolk in 1844. First cruise was to carry food to Ireland during famine. Converted to storeship in 1865. In 1866 served as store ship and hospital ship off Panama during yellow fever epidemic. Was station ship at Sitka, Alaska until 1868 when she was decommissioned. Transferred to Marine Hospital service in 1892. Published in Hospital Corps Quarterly, July 1945. Original public domain image from Flickr
