Army Reserve first to bring down hammers, strike through minefields

Soldiers from the 364th Engineer Platoon (Area Clearance), headquartered in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, train on the newly-fielded M1271 Mine Clearing Vehicle, also known as the Medium Flail, Oct. 29, during a weeklong course designed as a team-oriented training event at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The 364th En. Plt., with the Army Reserve, is the first unit across the entire Army to receive and train on this vehicle. The rotating arm has approximately 70 "hammers" at the end of heavy-duty chains, spinning at a rate of 3,500 revolutions per minute. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. 1st Class Michel Sauret).
