The Genus Calosoma is made up of the Caterpillar Hunter Beetles. It can be found from MT to ME and throughout most of Canada. It lives in open places, vacant fields, sand/gravel pits, and roadsides. When first emerging, young adults are often so voracious they will eat each other if no caterpillars are available.
