Janet Echelman’s 2009 public-art, illuminated sculpture, “Her Secret is Patience,” in downtown Phoenix’s Civic Space Park. The sculpture, which cost the city $2.5 million, consists of painted, galvanized steel; polyester twine netting; and colored lights.
Its title is a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, but during construction it was unofficially titled “Sky Bloom.” Original image from Carol M. Highsmith’s America, Library of Congress collection. Digitally enhanced by rawpixel.
