A petroglyph mounted outside Taliesin West, renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home and school in the desert outside Scottsdale, Arizona, from 1937 until his death in 1959.

Today it is the main campus of the School of Architecture at Taliesin and houses the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Open to the public for tours, the hillside facility drew its name from Wright's summer home, Taliesin, in Spring Green, Wisconsin. Wright was fascinated by the petroglyphs he saw in Arizona, and it is not a coincidence that he located his winter home adjacent to a cluster of them at the foot of the McDowell Mountains. He then incorporated some into his architectural designs. Original image from Carol M. Highsmith’s America, Library of Congress collection. Digitally enhanced by rawpixel.
