A monumental stairway consisting of 49 granite steps leading to the front entrance of the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, one of America's best-known statehouses for two reasons as it is the tallest (the skyscraper-like building rises 34 stories), and it was here that one of the nation's most famous (some would say notorious) governors, populist Huey Long, was assassinated in 1935
