Firefighters at Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge diverged from conventional #rxfire schedules to take advantage of opportune winter conditions to apply #goodfire to the ground. Firefighters have burned almost 800 acres of cattails on the refuge, which are typically burned in the spring. This wintertime burn allows firefighters to burn in a mosaic pattern, which will increase species diversity across a landscape, as well as provide more habitat for springtime ducks that visit the refuge.
