Queen Valley to Queen Mountain
A panorama depicting Queen Valley (on the left)—home to Joshua trees and Park Boulevard—and a Piñon Pine forest found at high elevations around Queen Mountain (on the right).

This picture reveals that Piñon pine trees need more moisture and cooler temperatures than lower elevations in the park can provide. These same high-elevation areas are expected to be "climate refugia" for Joshua trees, who are projected to lose habitat due to climate change.
