Chuckwalla in a Crevice
Even as the largest lizard in Joshua Tree, the common chuckwalla (Sauromalus ater) is not immune to predation.
Seen here, a common chuckwalla defensive behavior is to crawl into rock crevices—in this case, a crack in a granite boulder. If necessary, they'll even inflate their bodies to wedge themselves firmly in place.
