The Douglas squirrel lives in Pacific Northwest forests and eats them, too.
Buds, cones, nuts, seeds, leaves and twigs are all part of the Douglas squirrel diet.
In preparation for winter, the Douglas squirrel is known to bury caches of seeds, one of many ways the small rodent contributes to forest regeneration.
